The Opera! - Arie per un’eclissi 2024
Davide Livermore, Paolo Gep Cucco
A visionary musical opera that reinvents the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, transposing it into a contemporary narrative through an innovative blend of narrative, musical, and cinematic genres. The poignant, timeless love story of Orpheus and Eurydice is immersed in a metaphysical setting that uses virtual production to create extraordinarily immersive effects, encompassing dreamlike visions and suspended spaces. On the uncertain border between life and the afterlife, Eurydice's tragedy unfolds, abducted and pierced by Mephistopheles' dark spell. Her broken cry echoes in the soul of young Orpheus, who, driven by a love that not even death can extinguish, dares to challenge fate.
Guided by a modern and mocking Charon, taxi driver of the damned and a passing philosopher, Orpheus crosses the invisible border in an ash-colored Citroën DS Pallas and descends toward the Hotel Hades: not a simple hotel, but a lair of the departed, a waiting room for eternity. Here, memories and shadows intertwine: his father, his mother, the past that returns and whispers.
Between a Paris submerged by water, a cliff overlooking the Acheron, and a vast hall where souls throng, Orpheus discovers a heartbreaking truth: the only way to embrace Eurydice again forever is to die.
A bold experimentation in which cinematic references abound (including Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel, Ridley Scott's Blade Runner, Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge!, Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away, and Ingmar Bergman's The Seventh Seal) and the operatic genre intersects with pop and musicals (from La Bohème, L'Italiana in Algiers, Moulin Rouge, and Frankie Goes to Hollywood), creating a suggestive genre crossover.
